More or less based on a backpacker’s idea of which places a trip to Patagonia entails, we leave El Calafate at dusk to El Chalten, the self-proclaimed ¨capital of trekking¨. For nature lovers such as us, it is not surprising. More gorgeous landscapes, surrealistic colors to come.
Grown on a cliff. Would not like to be there the day the tree falls. Another evidence that trekking is dangerous and should be avoided.
The Chorrillo del Salto trek is 3km long and can be done, round trip, in about an hour and a half. The shortest there is in El Chalten. This tells you how much of a trekker I am.
How high is this waterfall ?
Not very high. It seems even shorter after having visited the Victoria and Iguazu Falls. But I have walked for it. So I stay on a rock and observe it for half an hour. I like to think of myself as a sophist.
And the way back… Knowing that the pain you have to endure is dwindling is always comforting.
