Ghanzi, Botswana

For the past few days, the dry heat has been insufferable. We are driving along the Kalahari desert to reach Namibia. On the positive side, mosquitoes do not bother us anymore at night in the campsites (they are replaced by moths and huge spiders in the bathroom fittings).

About 40 000 souls live in or around Ghanzi, 60% of which with less than a dollar a day. Although we can get drinks and food, we feel it is a privilege. Sparse habitations swarm over huge desert fields. We ride to “the quarry”, an artificial water-point, where water beetle are very active.

Simple, but nice camp. The smooth sand makes it agreeable. I upgrade to a hut.

The following morning, we visit the fascinating bushmen, arguably one of the oldest peoples in the world. Thanks to our interpreters, we can communicate with them. Read the wikipedia page for more information, it’s worth it.

Before us, they unearth various roots, herbs and fruits (how they spot them is a mystery to us). Digging.

  1. This is amazing! I think though you need to wear some more similar clothes to the natives, please post the pics of you in the hunter’s underwear.
