Ushuaia, Argentina

That’s it, we are at the end of the world ! Ushuaia, the most southern ¨city¨ in the entire world. Here, night does not fall before 11pm. Again, amazing blues.

Volver. Our favorite restaurant in the city. It is simply exquisite. Below, parmesan-gratined scallops. Being a glutton, I order a second dish (after 1.5 appetizers and a main course)… and barely fail to throw up afterwards. Hence the name of the restaurant : Volver (to come back).

Guyve Sardari forever.

A pretty bad attempt at capturing the soul of Ushuaia. I shall enhance my command of symbolism.

The beagle canal.

What are these stinky animals ? Hint : a previous post.

Seals ! Their smell is (fortunately) unique.

p1010083-large.jpg

Visibly tired, but ¨lindos¨. At least, that is what we have been endlessly told by Argentinians.

A modern time Colombus. Discovering the penguins.

Unlike crocodiles, they are good swimmers.

p1010168-large.jpg

I sometimes wonder why they settled on this tiny island. Why here and not somewhere else ? Ok, stupid question. Whatever the reason, it is now their exclusive kingdom.

Extremely disappointing. None exceeds thirty centimeters. The bigger – and rarer – ones live in Antarctica.

Penguins are very brutal. Below, a ruthless fight for not much (one penguin stepped on another’s feet). Can you believe it ?

Finally, the park Tierra del Fuego.

Pretty – but windy.

Again, plie, mais ne romps pas.

Aerial view of Ushuaia.

In the plane back to Buenos Aires, we meet… Luis Mariano ! A very nice fellow.
