Potosi, Bolivia

I am now in Potosi, a city famous for its mines. Here, garbage man are not left alone in their task; everybody participates and throws its “basuras” (trash) in the truck.

Mind you, the truck is made in Taiwan.

City center – swanky.

Dynamite.

Our guide, manipulating explosive devices, could not refrain from referring to Al Qaeda. Not so funny.

Visit of the factory.

The look of it does not make you feel secure. Everything seems to be about the explode.

Inside the mine. Six levels.

Chewing coca leaves help bear the difficult, airless environment. The bag on the left weighs about 250kg.

It is brought up 45 meters by a poulie.

Yeah, 45 meters.

Al Qaeda in action.

We have about 40 seconds to run (or die).

Ifergal, a 77 year old Scottish too. Shoot, he may not be able to run very far in 40 seconds…

What is life worth if you don’t take (measured) risks ? Seriously ?

Boom !

One of my finest moments in Bolivia. On the way south to Uyuni, our truck cannot ride uphill because of the rain and mud. So we have to get off of the bus…and push it. That’s what you get for paying 11 USD for a 12 hours ride.
