Hong Kong Sights, SAR, China

Isn’t it Hong Kong’s best sight ?

p1120331-large

No ? Then there’s Lantau Island.

p1120333-large

Accessible by cable-car (or feet).

p1120337-large

p1120340-large

Please care for the environment (?!).

Awkward English phrasing/translation wouldn’t bug me in any other Asian country/region, but in Hong Kong ?

p1120341-large

p1120342-large

Near the airport.

p1120346-large

Hills.

p1120352-large

More hills.

p1120354-large

Buddha.

p1120363-large

Not just any Buddha. One of the tallest in the entire world. 110 feet tall. Is was assumedly the “world’s tallest outdoor bronze seated Buddha” until 2007. A pretty narrow record. What about the world’s tallest outdoor unseated Buddha ? Or the world’s tallest indoor unseated silver Buddha ?

p1120364-large

Typical (tourist-attracting) architecture, aka disguised souvenir shops.

p1120368-large

So clean you could lick the floor. I didn’t.

p1120370-large

p1120373-large

Wearing shorts and flip flops. The kind of attire that once deeply challenged my sense of aesthetic. I guess traveling the world really alters one’s perspective.

p1120375-large

Respectful people call him Tian Tan Buddha (“Giant Buddha”).

p1120378-large

I could ramble about HK’s Legislative Council Elections on and on and how the whole system is a mockery of democracy. But really, you’d be better off reading this Wikipedia page.

p1120379-large

As authentic as you believe it is : the bronze sculpture was completed in… 1993.

p1120387-large

Nature at its best.

p1120393-large

p1120398-large

Buddha:  “Praise thy Lord. Give me some money too.

p1120403-large

Other buddhistic statues: “Please accept our gifts, Tian Tan.

p1120406-large

p1120407-large

Hola, what did you bring me?

p1120410-large

A lotus.

p1120411-large

Are you kidding me ? It is cheap water lily.

p1120413-large

Look at my fiery eyes, I am extremely displeased, you failed me. And my ears hurt, look at them.

p1120414-large

But master…please…

p1120416-large

No, go away you moron. Or bring me food.

p1120417-large

Your highness, please accept these plums.

p1120421-large

Alright, you are forgiven. But don’t you dare hiding food again from fat Buddha.

p1120422-large

You can go now. Bye bye friend.

p1120429-large

And thanks for the dough“.

p1120431-large

Need(less?) to remind that Hong Kong’s area aggregates countless islands.

p1120433-large

Very stylish nazi logo swastikas.

p1120438-large

Yeah, you read right: “(…) the captioned levels are reserved for visitors who hold vegertarian tickets or snack tickets for priority during the peak hours.

p1120439-large

Me and my boo(dha).

p1120440-large

An old crazy anarchist, with striped polo, second to the right. A bottle of water is his weapon.
